Great idea having a writing contest. I am looking forward to entering. I will probably enter the stort story catagory.
I have couple of comment.
Is there a time limit to entering? When are you judging the entries?
I also felt the limit of one page for short stories in particular is pretty vague and limiting as most stories are around 1000 to 2000 words in length although there can be flash fiction pieces.
It may be better to suggest a word limit to the entries.

Thanks for the feedback, it was exactly this sort of stuff I was looking for.
There will be a time limit but I'm not sure what that will be yet. You should have plenty of time to enter as I plan on waiting for at least a little while for word of the contest to spread and for people to all be able to enter. I will keep everyone posted on the timing of this as we go forward.
Great idea for the short story limit. What do you think would be a reasonable limit? I am wanting something that will be long enough for the writers to be able to express their creativity and not feel limited but short enough that it is reasonable to judge and not to long. I trust you so I will change it to whatever you think is a reasonable word limit.
Hope that makes sense and thanks once again for the feedback.

Thanks for passing the word on. Can't really seem to gauge how much 1000 words is but I was thinking 2000 might be more reasonable. What do you think? Also do you think a one page limit for articles and poems is fine?
Please let me know and thanks once again for your feedback and promotion.

2000 words is usually about 4 pages long and that would give a short story writer a lot of scope but it may be too long for your judging purposes.
I would think 1000 words or 2 pages would be good for an article, poems are generally a lot shorter in length anyway, but I don't write poetry so you I'm not the best person to ask.
I was also thinking that you should write out the contest guidlines, if you search the net and have a look at general guidlines for other writing conests that would give you some idea what you want to put.
Things like contest deadline, when it will be judged, word lengths, if there will be second places, you may or may not want to limit offensive language etc
I was also thinking that you may want to have new work contributed to the contest, rather than articles that are already published.
Please ignore anything that you have already thought of , or feel isn't appropriate to the contest.
One last thought you may want to ask for those interested to register and state which catagory they will be submiting to.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try to work on the guidelines more sometime soon (hopefully this weekend).
I am thinking the poem limit will be 1 page, the article will be 800 words or 1 page whichever is longer, and the short story will be 1500 words or 2 pages, whichever is longer.
Thanks once again for the suggestions, I will have to think about some of them and write up some more formal guidelines.

If you look on the right side near the top you will see a little box that says writing contest. Below that there are three links. There is one titled contest rules. That pages has all the rules for the contest and explains how to enter. The one titled submission page is the where you post your entry, according to the rules.
Hope this helps and can't wait to see your entry.
